I generally clear off as you sit down to eat, and let your friends take over from there.

Once I'm home, first thing I'll do is make multiple backups of your images. Then I'll pour myself a well-earned drink, sit down at my computer and laugh out loud as I see what we got. I might even start right away, perfecting the pictures that shout at me from the screen. Or I might kick back and watch TV, since it's probably Saturday night and I'm feeling good about the day.

For the next while, I'll be going through those pictures – typically around 150 of them – one by one, working out how best to crop them, what really has to be fixed and what I should leave alone and making several versions of each for different purposes. When I'm happy they work individually and together, I'll print a set of index sheets – like a storyboard – then laminate them for you to study.

That was the easy bit, but what happens next is the best. I rearrange the images so they work well as a sequence, assemble a slideshow with smooth dissolves but no cheesy stuff, time it right for the music you've chosen and magic it all into a fantastically good DVD. I'll pick a suitable photograph and design a custom cover for the case. And I'll sit down with some chocs and watch it. I have to admit I'm impressed myself – I'd no idea I could do anything so good!                                                                   Read on...
